Confusion Committee

From Pumping Station: One Wiki

Dan here. Basically, I lost interest in this whole thing for various reasons. I'll keep this page around since others may want to do things with it. I'll help organize things here and there. For now I just don't want to be in charge of an overall organization endeavor. Taking my name off the contact list.

Description

This a group that I (Dan Krol) am starting that will task itself with gathering interesting and important details (that people want to disclose) about what's going on at the space, and making sure it gets to the proper outlet. I would like to keep this as independent as possible, avoiding imposing any order on the rest of the group or getting in anybody's way. Of course this focus may change slightly as other interested members give their input.

In case you wanted to read more of what made me decide to start this committee, you can look at the initial email I posted to the list here: The Long Version

Note that I'm not tasking myself with PR; that's handled by the PR Committee. They might ask for my help in getting data in order, but if you have something you want to disclose to the press, you should talk to them.

To Do

While waiting to hammer out the focus of this committee, here's the To Do:

Wiki

Make the wiki front page usable

Link all wiki pages appropriately (still editing)

Each page should be:

  • Linked appropriately
    • Number of Clicks
      • I'd like all pages accessible within 3 clicks from the front, ideally.
        • If it's something particularly unimportant, particularly a no longer necessary page, more may be ok.
      • No orphans.
    • Listed on appropriate other pages
      • Think if the page should be mentioned in one of the following:
        • Events I think should have a nicely organized page, in addition to a tag.
        • Contact Points (not a link to the page, but copy contact points from there to here)
        • Reference
        • Records
        • (Member Projects, Interest Groups, etc, don't need to be nicely organized; that's up to the creators. The categories suffice.)
      • Related Pages
        • If a given page is the business of a committee, add that link to the committee's page.
  • Appropriate Info
    • Contact info
      • Don't put email addresses without permission. Just put a name, and a link to their wiki profile.
    • Generally up to date, if it's an easy change.

Here's how we do it:

Here's a list of every page, at the time of this writing. (if a couple more get created after we're done, we can probably find them with a query, and take care of them quick). After you confirm and/or fix a page, remove it from this list.

Possible Areas of Focus

Put down your own startoff ideas. These are subject to change, we can discuss them later.

Info to track

  • Committees
  • Contact Points (Committee leaders/members, PSO officers, etc)
  • Important Projects (things than affect the whole group, like the loft) Keep things up to date.
  • Interesting Projects (things that everyone would like to know about, and we might like the public to know) Keep things up to date.
  • The state of our facilities (how ready is our kitchen, when is the back room going to be cleared out)
  • Reference material (Where to get parts, where to get food around here)
  • Our informal policies (guests, holding groups/events)
  • Past Events ("yearbook")

Proper Outlets

  • Keep the Wiki useful, well organized, and updated.
    • Front page: Latest state of affairs for the group.
      • How things are organized.
      • What committees, groups, notable projects are going on.
      • What is the state of important projects, such as designing/building the space, etc.
    • Be able to easily know about and reach every page on the wiki within a few clicks from the front page.
  • Announcements (let's actually use our announce list :) )
  • Things we think the public ought to hear about, we hand off to a PR person (or handle it ourselves if PR people join the group, I'm not a good PR person)
