About
This page is about the procedure for how to get new members up to speed and ready to hack at Pumping Station: One as quickly and easily as possible.
Manual Process
First: Verify Payment
Treasurer is responsible for determining if the person has paid (whether via PayPal, or via cash/check). Once it's verified, it should be entered in the finance spreadsheets. Once they do, they should email the President directly to send the packet.
- Added to finance spreadsheets
Second: Send Packet, Organize Key
- Membership packet
- Key: Anyone, but communicate about this to the new member and determine how the Key will be given.
- If unclear, find out what the name on the new membership is. Sometimes the paypal is ambiguous or a business account.
- Email CTO that the user is all set and should be given accounts.
Third: CTO
- Suggestion to join the private mailing list, public mailing list.
- Add user to announce list.
- Blog account (Author mode)
- Wiki account
Tech-Assisted Process
Idea One: Issue Tracker
There should be a project in JIRA for new members. Any board member should be able to create tickets in the project, with partial status, from a template checklist to be copy/pasted from this wiki page or initiated from a single button press on a web form that hits the JIRA API. Rather than using email to coordinate the process of onboarding, this would allow users to automatically have a list of things they need to handle. The general flow would still be followed in most cases. The regular exception is when a new member joins up while at the space and a board member is there to assist with the things they're able to help with but out of normal sequence.
