Introductions

  • Brief overview of what PS1 is (<1min).
  • New members/visitors introduce themselves.
  • Introduce the board and area hosts.

Announcements

  • Will says Make is going to blog about his (and Elizabeth's) work at Ancona setting up a maker program.
    • Ancona is hiring some folks for an after-school program. See mailing list for details.
  • Mike is giving a talk, "Introduction to Functional Programming" this Sunday, August 10 at 5pm in the electronics lab.
  • Next Tuesday we have 300 seconds of fame. Here's your chance to talk about whatever you want for 5 minutes with no interruptions!

    • Talks about what a hackerspace is.
  • New folks introduce themselves
    • Connor makes software. He found out about us on Reddit. (r/chicago)
    • David lives in the neighborhood. He found us searching for 3d printers on the internet. eBay seller - repurposes old lenses and wants to make parts for a centrifuge
    • Bosco heard about us... well he doesn't remember. Meetup told him to come here. He doesn't know what he likes to make, he's a software developer. Software totally counts.
    • Bruce is a software developer. He sits next to Bosco for a living. He heard about us from Bosco. Model making, electronics.
    • Garret puts speakers in old suitcases. He's here to do that.
    • Caroline heard about us from her teacher. She's a props designer so she makes all kinds of stuff.
    • Matt has known about us for a while. One of his coworkers encouraged him to come out. He makes software and electronics.
    • Steve just moved to Chicago last Saturday and went hunting for hackerspaces. He's into Linux and server hardware. Python. Into embedded electronics
    • Jamie also heard about this place on Reddit. (Also a friend). Studied furniture design at SCAD - looking to get into making more furniture.
    • His wife, Olinka, is a yoga teacher. She's here with Jamie.
    • Carson found out about us at the South Side Maker Faire. He's here to see what it's all about. He's into all kinds of things, cameras, audio.
    • Scott likes to hack his brain, with infrared light. Meetup sent him here.
    • Trevor likes to make LED projects. He heard about us on meetup probably.

    • Justin wants to thank everyone who helped out at South Side Maker Faire. Jenny, Derek, Justin and Sevin. We made lots of noisemakers and snared at least one visitor.
    • Dean has made significant progress on the dust collection. It runs now and collects some dust.

    • Donald got us two new nozzles on the replicator - hopefully it works for a while.
    • Jerry organized the volunteer labor for Pitchfork and helped earn us a cool $1000.
