Talk:How to financials

The following are categories from the 2014 budget that may need a home on this page.

  • Cleaning
  • Member points
  • Safety
  • Laser Loan

The categories from the 2014 budget do not necessarily match up with the categories in quickbooks. This page is meant to explain what is being done in quickbooks, and by extension, what comes out in reports. Whomever does the next budget, should match up to this page. To specifically address your points:

  • Cleaning would be an office expense.
  • Member points. I see the usefulness of tracking this explicitly, but it shouldn't be a category. I'll look around to see what we can do about having this information somewhere in quickbooks.
  • Safety equipment is a new category (Security/Safety Equipment), I should add it to this page.
  • Laser loan. This page mostly lists expense accounts. I haven't put any bank accounts or income accounts in this list, so I'm wondering why it would be useful to put long term liability accounts here?

Things to do

  • Add explanation about buffer zone of pulled in transactions
  • Add note about pex cards not being automatically pulled in
  • Transfers
  • Different types of data (departments, accounts, member/vendor)

Caveat Transactions

  • When we pay comed, we also pay a billmatrix fee (online bill pay). I've been attributing this to ComEd. --Hef (talk) 18:01, 16 November 2014 (CST)
  • Pagely: Currently accounted as "Utilities:Internet", probably should be advertising or similar --Hef (talk) 19:21, 16 November 2014 (CST)
  • Laser Cutter Loan: The department is G&A. In the future, that should be CNC, and the CNC budget should be boosted by the amount we pay. --Hef (talk) 19:21, 16 November 2014 (CST)
  • Creative Cloud: Should be 50/50 split between CNC and Arts. Quickbooks doesn't allow for that, so I am leaving it as votes for now. --Hef (talk) 19:33, 16 November 2014 (CST)
    • Iv'e been doing this wrong: It needs to be converted into 2 transactions --Hef (talk) 23:20, 16 November 2014 (CST)
  • Incoming money from ATM: member dues - G&A --Hef (talk) 19:43, 16 November 2014 (CST)

Opinions

Small tools and equipment that are not considered an asset should be separated from large tools and equipment that are considered an asset, $75 seems to be a reasonable delimiter on asset vs disposable tool. (Amishhammer)
