D. Wexler & Sons is one of the places to get raw steel in Chicago.

  • Minimum orders — 16 to 24 feet bars (exact bar length depends on the steel shape)
  • Prices — $0.75 to $0.85 a pound. Bars can be cut, eg. to fit in your vehicle. Cuts are $1 to $2 each.
  • Location — 47th St, Chicago
  • Pickup — Mon to Fri, 8:00am to 3:30pm.
  • Catalog — No online catalog is available. Get their paper catalog. A paper catalog is stored at Pumping Station: One. You can also call them, they're very friendly and answer questions.
  • Metal sold — A36 steel only. Available in most shapes.

They're a small and friendly place. The first time I (Dee Newcum) ordered from them, the president took my order, and he took time to answer my questions, even though I was making a small order.
