General

See the Certification Policy for information about getting authorized to use tools. The Board has created a number of Authorizer positions who should have regularly scheduled office hours. One can also contact the Area Hosts

On the Laser Cutter

Come To CNC Office hours, 2nd and 4th Tuesday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm

On The 3D Printer

Come To CNC Office hours, 2nd and 4th Tuesday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm

On The Metal Lathe

Anna Yu performs Lathe Certification every Tuesday. You must email her first.

This currently requires Tier 1 certification.

On Wood Shop Tools

Come to wood shop office hours on the first and third Tuesday of every month after the members meeting (which starts at 8:00pm).

On The ShopBot

The Shopbot PRS CNC router certifications are generally run as classes with a capped number of people who can attend. They are not taught very frequently and there is usually a wait list as they fill up very quickly in a first come first serve basis when they are announced. Watch the member's mailing list for announcements of classes. If no class has happened for some time, you should post to the member's list asking when the next certification is, but first search for a current thread on the mailing list, so as to avoid duplicating conversations. The class will normally last several hours.

On the Industrial Serger Sewing Machine

Shellie Lewis holds office hours Wednesdays at 7:00pm and gives instruction on the Serger Sewing Machine.

On the SEM

Ryan Pierce runs SEM user authorizations which consist of a 3 hour group lecture (watch the mailing list, he tries to schedule these at varying times monthly) after which you must schedule a 1 1/2 hour slot with him for hands on individual instruction. Users completing this will be authorized to use the SEM to view samples already in the sample chamber. Ryan can work with users to prepare samples which users can view. Additional advanced authorizations (sample prep, EDX analysis, critical point drying) are in the works.

On The Front Door

Come to Orientation on the 4th Sunday of the month at 4:00pm and come to a general meeting on Tuesday at 8:00pm and get your ID verified by two board members.
