All Certifications require membership.

See Also Broken Authorization

General

See the Authorization Policy for information about getting authorized to use tools. Check the Google calendar and Meetup calendar for scheduled authorizations. Volunteer Authorizers should have regularly scheduled office hours. One can also contact the Area Hosts.

On the Laser Cutter

Currently scheduled on a request basis. Check the mailing list for scheduled sessions, or start a new thread with a date and time that works for you. These happen frequently, but irregularly.

On The 3D Printer

Check the mailing list, or start a new thread. The MakerBot_Replicator and 3dSystems_CubePro do not require authorization.

On Cold Metal Machines (Tier 1)

Monitor the mailing list and calendar for scheduled authorizations.

On The Metal Lathe

Anna Yu performs Lathe Certification every Tuesday. You must email her first.

This currently requires Tier 1 certification.

On Wood Shop Tools

Authorizations are generally Thursday evenings. Check the events calendar

On the Industrial Serger Sewing Machine

Shellie Lewis generally holds Arts & Crafts & Digital Media & Knitting office hours Fridays at 8:30 and gives instruction on the Serger Sewing Machine. Check the Google calendar.

On The ShopBot

There is now a separate software-only class to cover CNC concepts and the VCarve software. This class will not have limited capacity, so anyone can attend. Beginning in February, 2016 the class is a prerequisite for the hands-on ShopBot authorization, which will be significantly shortened since it will only cover the specifics of the tool itself.

If a class is not scheduled in the Meetup.com calendar and one has not happened for some time, you should first search for a current thread on the mailing list to avoid duplicating conversations. If no recent threads exist, ask on the member list when the next certification is. If you would like to request a class for different times than are regularly available, please post to the member list and contact the area host.

On The Front Door

Come to Orientation on the 4th Sunday of the month at 4:00pm and come to a general meeting on Tuesday at 8:00pm and get your ID verified by two board members.
