Revision as of 21:19, 14 January 2017

This group is for individuals who are interested in helping to organize PS1's bid for NASA's 2017 Space Apps Challenge [1] hackathon taking place April 29-30, 2017.

Who?

  • Jenny Tong, Adriana Garcia, Daniel Tornabene, Simon Pyle, Will McShane, and Ron Olson are organizers.

When and Where?

Saturdays in January. It should appear on our handy-dandy calendar of events. We usually meet in the electronics area upstairs unless another group is meeting there.

3519 N. Elston Chicago, IL 60618

What is this?

This is a working group tasked with completing PS1's application to host the 2017 NASA Space Apps Challenge hackathon. We aim to submit the application by January 31, 2017 at the latest.

If the bid is accepted by NASA, we will be the hackathon organizers.

If the bid is not accepted by NASA, this working group disbands.

What to bring?

  • A computer: our organizing resources are mostly stored in Google Doc form.

Organizing resources

  • Submitting project nominations for global award consideration by NASA.
  • Creating local awards and their evaluation criteria (optional).
  • Sharing information about local awards with solvers (optional).
  • Fostering a safe and supportive environment for your local community!

Past Meetings

  • 12-11-2016: Jenny and Daniel met and discussed the deadline and what we needed to put together for the next few meetings: a list of organizations to reach out to. Also need to do research on the content of the kinds of challenges at the hackathon (Jenny's note: NASA's previous year websites for the Space Apps hackathon show problem statements).
  • 12-17-2016: Jenny and Adriana met and discussed. Google docs were created with organization lists and with an email template to send to the organization's contact point. Tentative timeline for reaching out to organizations was early January. Google docs were shared with individuals who expressed interest in organizing/attended the previous meetings.
  • 01-07-2016: Simon, Daniel, Ron, Will, Adriana, and Jenny present. Notes here: [3]
  • 01-14-2016: Adriana and Jenny present.
