Emergency

In case of emergency, call 911. Our address is 3519 N. Elston, Chicago, IL 60618

First Aid Kits

First aid kits are located:

  • To the right of the door in the kitchen, leading to the wood and metal shop area. (installed)
  • On the wall near the bathroom in the electronics shop. (installed)
  • First Aid Kit Trello card

First aid kits still should be inventoried and topped off, and mounted more permanently. Mounted with industrial velcro to the wall.

Fire Extinguishers

There are at least six type ABC fire extinguishers located throughout the space.

  • 1. near the rear exit [currently not present, needs to be hung and marked. We need a hanger for it.]
  • 2. near the furnace room, if that is what it is called [hook exists, nothing on it, but this one needs reinspecting]
  • 3. in the kitchen, to the right of the door leading to the workshop area
  • 4. in the lounge, on the windowsill next to the booze
  • 5. upstairs, on the table facing the front entry "ADMITANCE" door
  • 6. upstairs, next to the Monica the Konica printer.

All but #2 need to be mounted on the wall about waist-high with a sign mounted at or above eye level for visibility from a distance.

Eye Wash Stations

Eye Wash stations should be located near to likely accident sites:

I'd suggest in the workshop area, next to the door to the kitchen (near the laser cutter) and upstairs near the first aid kit and bathroom.

Anyone have a better location suggestion?

When these arrive, please let us know via the Google group and Trello, and probably here on the wiki too.

  • TBD, 2 ordered.
  • Eye Wash Stations Trello card
  • one brand new one in the box is in the kitchen, as yet unfilled and unmounted.
  • what are they to be filled with, distilled water perhaps?

Community

Looking out for each other in the shop and the labs and considering the importance of other people's safety while you, or they, work is very important. If you see someone working in an unsafe manner, advise them that you think they are being unsafe and offer advice if you can. There are not necessarily lifeguards in this pool, but you can and should act as one when you can.

Safety is not just about physical injury. For information about how to treat each other to make this a safe space, please see the Membership agreement.

Shop Improvements

Some good points relating to safety (but info that is not yet integrated into Trello or elsewhere) were posted on this wiki page here https://wiki.pumpingstationone.org/Shop_Improvements_page
