Alternative consequences

When working on discipline issues this year, we had people arguing that banning is not the only option. I made a list of more fine grained options. I don't want to lose that so I am sharing it here.

  • Warning to change behavior, with subsequent consequences
  • Specific action such as apology (not always a good idea)
  • Requiring to avoid any interaction with, and physical proximity to, people involved in the situation
  • Ending volunteer responsibilities
  • Permanent ban from online spaces
  • Temporary ban from online spaces
  • Moderation in online spaces
  • Required supervision
