Vote to change the Kitchen Zone

Background

The main purpose of this vote is twofold: take advantage of space that became available during the space expansion and allow the use of funds for a renovation budget. A former renovation budget was unused due to the space expansion effors; this new renovation budget mirrors the previous budget with some modifications. One space issue that has become evident is the disconnect between the kitchen and the lounge. This vote seeks to make a more fluid space for the membership by directly connecting the kitchen and lounge, without having to pass through another area. This move is accomplished by taking up some space originally intended for small metals, is considered part of the general area, and is now being occupied by cold metals. Both General area and Cold Metals are in agreement with the possible move.

Plans are provided showing the two different floor layouts. This vote calls for Plan A to be implemented with the provision of an appropriate budget. Plan B, in comparison, is the current kitchen area renovated with the same equipment and infrastructure as the space the new proposed space.

Benefits of Plan A over Plan B

  • More convenient access from kitchen area to all other departments.
  • Ability to host more people in the lounge for events if the food is fully accessible in the kitchen.
  • Beer church and all of it’s equipment can remain where it is currently stationed.
  • The linens and dishes cabinet will be located more conveniently by the sink.
  • Noise buffering between the lounge and general shop area.
  • General area in the shop becomes contiguous.

Complications

An extra wall, ceiling, and doorway (1.5 doorway like those leading out of the foyer) will have to be installed and the view from one end of the building to the other will change.

Cold Metals

Cold metals will have to shift equipment (for which there is support in the cold metals area).

Beer Church

The long-standing beer church has housed all of it's equipment and fermentation chamber in the kitchen area. The kitchen area no longer has a desire to host beer church within its confines and would like to transfer it to the General area (for which there is support in General Area). All of beer church will be housed in a specific location within the General area depending on which plan is chosen. In plan A beer church will be consolidated to the fermentation chamber's current wall with a total depth of 3 ft from the wall from the kitchen doorway to the north wall. In plan B beer church will move on the short outside wall of the kitchen from the outside corner of the kitchen to the outside of the kitchen pass-through ust out
