Background

Last year the tool cage and area host position were removed and, due to the expansion, decided to distribute the tools among the areas where those specific tools would be used. One of the main drawbacks of the tool cage implementation and then subsequently removing it altogether was that there wasn't enough dedicated space to store the tools.

The proposed solution would use 4 rolling carts that would allow the tools to come to the user and not be locked down in one place.

The carts to be purchased are the same as one currently in hot metals and can be purchased from Harbor Freight and cost $179.

The alternate purpose of having multiple tool carts is also to be able to have discrete sets of tools instead of all the tools in one place. It is very difficult to determine if there are any tools missing if various sets of tools are stored in the same location. One of the other goals is to have specification sheets and searchable wiki pages for each tool cart so that you can search online, track missing parts, and easily determine where a tool goes whether or not you know what it is.

This proposal allots $800 to purchase and replace any missing components from sets of tools. Each cart should have a set of SAE and metric:

  • T handle allen keys
  • allen wrench sets
  • sockets (possibly impact sockets as well)
  • Box end-wrenched
  • precision screw drivers
  • safety bit set
  • phillips, flat head, torx screwdrivers
  • drill index
  • vise grips
  • plier set
  • adjustable crescent wrench
  • box cutters
  • wire cutters, side cutters

Consumables

  • Duct tape
  • blue tape
  • masking tape
  • electrical tape
  • teflon tape
  • sand paper

Donation box

Steel pegboard panels were purchased for the tool cage and are currently unused because they haven't been hung up. This vote allots $200 to hang peg board panels to hang large tools.
