Background
The cold metals budgets for previous years were $6000 (2015) and $5600 (2016). This year's budget request is higher to accommodate more members in the area, furniture for the expansion, and to continue providing fasteners to the space. As I have done in past years, I will be looking for bargains on used equipment that will expand our capabilities. Several members have enthusiastically recommended a cold saw, which looks something like a very sturdy wood miter saw with flood coolant. Cold saws have several advantages over horizontal bandsaws: lower cost per cut, more accurate cut, and better surface finish. According to the survey and mailing list thread from earlier this year, members are also interested in additional sheet metal tools, so I will be looking for those.
