The cold metals budgets for previous years were $6000 (2015) and $5600 (2016). This year's budget request is higher to accommodate more members in the area, furniture for the expansion, and to continue providing fasteners to the space. As I have done in past years, I will be looking for bargains on used equipment that will expand our capabilities. Several members have enthusiastically recommended a cold saw, which looks something like a very sturdy wood miter saw with flood coolant. Cold saws have several advantages over horizontal bandsaws: lower cost per cut, more accurate cut, and better surface finish. I will also continue to add to the sheet metal equipment.
