List of Interest Groups

This is a list of interest groups formed, affiliated with, or wished for at Pumping Station: One

Chicago RepRap

We are currently building a REPlicating RAPid prototyper from the reprap foundation [http:/www.reprap.org/]. We meet weekly on Sundays - Contact Sacha or John S. to join us in a meeting (build meetings are held at a private residence, so you need to contact us for directions). Join us if you're interested in mechanical, electrical, materials, programming, or 3D design

DIY Musical Instruments

We currently have interest in cigar-box ukuleles, theremins, circuit-bent keyboards, and more.

Molecular Gastronomy

A group for those interested in molecular gastronomy (the science of cooking). No meeting time determined yet.

Perl Desktop Stuff

No meeting time or etc yet. A group for people interested in Perl and applying it to various desktop related stuff on unix system.

Resilient Communities

This interest group will discuss the various ideas and issues surrounding the development of resilient communities(brief explanation from Global Guerrillas); technology, organization, strategies, and other related theorics/praxis will be debated and discussed, and the interest group will provide a launching point for projects along these lines.

Reverse Engineering Task Force

A group for those interested in reverse engineering everything they see. Focus on reversing electronics hardware, embedded firmware, computer software, protocols, file formats, mechanical systems, etc; study of R.E. methodology, creation of R.E. tools, etc). We're looking for projects and stuff to tinker with! No meeting time determined yet.

Screen Printing Workshop

We will discuss printmaking from start to finish. I'm learning right alongside everyone on a lot of this stuff, but do have some technical knowledge from what I've read in the past few years. Anyone with experience interested in helping put this together, let me know.

Autobiohacking

A group focusing on practical transhumanism: ways to improve our bodies and minds above and beyond what's considered baseline "normal" or "healthy". Examples include:

  • Improving physical health via effective combinations of diet, exercise, and supplementation. (We won't get to enjoy all the gadgets of the future if we don't live long enough to get there, right?)
  • Improving mental acuity via nootropics, meditation, etc.
  • Augmenting our natural senses and faculties via mediated interfaces, computers as exocortices, etc.


Krafty Korner

A group focused on exploring textiles, pigments, woods, metals, and the arts, with a special focus on the creative reuse of materials:

  • Creative use and reuse of waste textiles
    • disassembly and reimagining of existing clothing and objects
  • Furniture making
  • Large- and small- scale art and installations
  • Graphic Design
  • Textile maipiulation and creation (sewing, crocheting, knitting, dying, etc)
