Pumping Station: One, NFP, is a playground for the mind - a space to facilitate creativity in and through the merging of art, technology, and culture.  Pumping Station: One (PS1) was named in honor of one of the few buildings to survive the great Chicago fire, and in the spirit of that monument to the City's tenacity, PS1 aims to promote and inspire a new generation of innovators.

Chicago's pioneer in the international hacker space movement, PS1 offers members 24-hour access to a constantly expanding inventory of equipment and resources; a loft, coding lounge, and DJ booth, all designed and built by members; and a casual but motivated atmosphere.  With classes in subjects from electronics and programming to welding and home beer brewing, workshops with prominent guest speakers, constructive relationships with other hacker groups around the world, and open conversation around new and developing technologies, members can learn about digital logic one evening, teach a class on building guitars the next, and spend the weekend helping to create an 8-foot working Tetris wall while discussing plans to implement green technology in the space.
