I admire the | FreeGeek Chicago Code of Conduct so I am trying to come up for one for me and anyone who is my visitor. I'm going to take their code as a template and play around with it until I am happy enough with it to be willing to ask people to comply.

Code

I pledge to act in a respectful manner at all times while in and around ps:one space, and whenever interacting with another ps:one visitor or member.

This is a diverse space, and I welcome a diversity of perspectives. My guests and I should display common courtesy towards other members and guests at ps:one.

ps:one is a hackerspace thingee where people get to play with stuff and learn stuff (free geek has an information technology-oriented organization so I may try and come up with some terse thingee like that by way of trying to explain the level of behavior. depending on what is going on it would be like dressing for an IT job versus dancing or going to the beach. So the communication should match impedance of the context. example text from a workshop code of conduct is, All communication should be appropriate for a professional audience including people of many different backgrounds and skill levels.)

okay, time for me to get to work. below is the rest of the freegeek text which I'll try to adapt to my code.

Staff and volunteers pledge to refrain from any sexual language or innuendo, slurs related to ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation, disparaging remarks about any group of people, unwanted sexual advances towards other volunteers, excessive cursing, cursing around children, and disruptive behavior. At best these behaviors are unrelated to FreeGeek's goals, and they can be completely alienating to other volunteers.

If two or more staff agree (unless only one staff person is on duty), any volunteer may be asked to leave the space for the remainder of any open day. If any staff member believes that more serious measures are required, the staff will meet and attempt to reach consensus on a course of action.
