Electrical
This page is very out of date. The General Operations Team is in the process of documenting changes as we find them.
In 2020 we updated locations of switches for lighting.
In june 2021 we are documenting power panels and breakers as best we know. More to come
Power Panels
Outlets generally have the power panel number and the circuit labeled on them, some newer outlets do not.

PP1-1
Back of the shop by the loading dock. Can't miss it. Served from main switch by back door (probably from the upper disconnect, but haven't verified).
Single phase and 2 pole circuits wired to 3 phase breakers.
Several high amp 3 phase breakers that are unmapped.
Electrician moved some things around and added a new thing 10/17/22. (This is all I know.)

Conduit Label | feed path | What It Feeds |
---|---|---|
A | dead ends 20' into shop | |
B | into PB1-2, through wall into dock | 220V welder outlet on N wall above hydraulic pump |
C | into PB1-2, then to Pj1-1, then down to PB1-1 | rear door exit sign, and sockets above PP1-1 labeled as PP1-1:10 |
D | conduit runs to PB1-2, but has no lines | no lines in this conduit |
E | Junction in ceiling above cold metals, which feeds 3 things:
| |
F | direct to lights in ceiling | Shop lights, 2nd row from the East wall |
G | direct to lights in ceiling | shop lights, 3rd and 4th rows from East wall |
H | across shop ceiling and down East wall | 120V outlet run along East wall of cold metals |
Small fuse box
Back of the shop, left of PP1-1, above the light switches.
Left fuse, exit signs.
traced wiring 4/25/2017, and both fuses appear to feed the fans for the heaters in the ceiling, and the junction boxes next to the roof vents. While this fuse panel does feed into the junction that feeds the exit signs, it is just passing through and does NOT actually feed the exit sign: Tucker
PB1-1
This junction is fed by 2 different wiring paths:
- The first wiring path comes from the small fuse box (listed above), and passes through the socket box labeled PP1-1-2:10, then through PB1-1 and up ~4ft to PJ1-1. From PJ1-1, it passes through PB1-2 and out too a conduit in the ceiling where it splits to feed the heater fans (with the exception of the SW one), and the junctions next to the 2 vents in the ceiling
- The second wiring path starts at PP1-2, goes up the conduit labeled 'C' to PB1-2. From there it goes out to PJ1-1, and then down to PB1-1. From PB1-1 it feeds the exit sign over the back door, and the sockets above PP1-1 labeled PP1-1-2:10
PB1-2
Power box connected to PP1-1 by conduit. Bridges the A/C heat pump/air handler circuit, among other things. The 3-phase for A/c heat pump and air handler is bridged such that the entire 3 phase comes from PP1-1 up to the roof via PB1-2, and a branch switched on the roof by relay comes back down in the same conduit that goes the the roof. This circuit is passed via conduit to the air handler, and switched manually on the bottom of the air handler.
Below is the result of wire tracing done 04/25/2017. Tucker
This junction is a pass through for circuits from PP1-1, PP1-2 and the small fuse box.
- Small fuse box
- lines go through PB1-1->PJ1-1->PB1-2->roof and supply heater fans
- PP1-1
- This circuit feeds through the conduit marked 'B' to the roof and presumably the AC (see note from previous mapping)
- PP1-2
- from conduit 'B', the circuit feeds through the wall behind PB1-2 and into the dock, where it supplies the 220V welder outlet on the back wall above the hydraulic pump.
- from conduit 'C' -> PB1-2 -> PJ1-1 -> PB1-1 -> exit sign over back door, and the outlets above PP1-1
- Conduit 'D' connects PP1-2 and PB1-2, but no wires are run inside.

Light Switches
Upstairs: Arts and Electronics Areas
There are five lighting circuits upstairs, four of which are on three-way switches.
- There is a switch next to the front stairway for stairwell and upstairs landing (the other switch is at the bottom of the stairs). Leave this light on.
- There are three switches on the Arts side of the stairwell labelled 'Arts' 'Electronics' and 'Mid'. There is an identical set of switches by the door to the back stairway.
- Arts is the lights on the arts side of the upstairs
- Electronics is two rows of lights on the electronics side
- Mid is one row of lights in electronics
- Many of the fixtures in electronics have individual pull-switches (wall switch must be on)
- The switch for the lights in front of the shelves on the north wall of the electronics lab is behind the shelves. Follow the conduit that comes down from the ceiling.
Cold Metals, General Shop, Small Metals
The shop lights are near the back door -- look to the left of the loading dock, to the left of the electrical panels with the clock sitting on top. There's a row of with a red panel around them.
There's no way to turn these lights on from the other end of the shop. But a switch in Cold metals next to the sliding door into the lounge does turn on a small bank in the center of the room for safety.
One light should stay on for safety. If there are zero lights on, turn one on.
Switches that have clear plastic covers don't need to be messed with.
Lounge
The lounge has a simple light switch arrangement.
CNC Room
- Four switches by the front entrance that control the lights in the main part of the room
- Two switches by the safe to the left, one for the safe lights and one for the short hall by the doorway to the shop
- One switch to the right of the safe, that controls the outlet on the ceiling in the center of the room.
Wood Shop / Hot Metals
- Both the Wood Shop and Hot Metals share light controls. Switches are located near the loading dock doors spread over two clusters of switch boxes either side of the electrical panels.
- There is a switch next to the HotMetals street door that turns on the very center of Hot Metals & the Wood shop, it is a 3-way with a switch in the clusters noted above.
