New People

New People (name - where did you hear about us - what do you make/hack)

  • Camille | found out about PS1 from Sonya | works at Bosch Dremel, working on educational 3D efforts
  • Henry | mycology - mushrooms for food, ecological restoration | found us on Meetup.com
  • Joe | comes to Linux meetings upstairs |
  • Leo | just moved to Chicago | found us on Google
  • Pete | just moved here | found out about us at Haystack Art Center in Maine | wants to do woodworking and furniture
  • Marshawn | wants to make & hack something cool | heard about us through Bethlehem New Life, teaches yoga
  • Jason | visiting from Omaha for the week | went to IMTS, now exploring Chicago
  • Devon | woodworking | heard about us from a friend of a friend

  • Brian | working on molding & casting, papercrafting & 3D models | member for about 6 months
  • Sonya | UIC librarian | makes kinetic sculptures | people here are great when you have an idea and are trying to figure out how to make it real

Things that need doing around the space

  • Please wash your paintbrushes! Otherwise they die.
  • Google events still say to meet upstairs - even if they meet downstairs
  • First Aid kits need refilling
    • Erik is working on it
  • Keep the kitchen clean

things that need doing for the move

Some tasks that were mentioned:

  • SATURDAY around 6 or 7: move the bar
  • Move everything that is not CNC-related out of the old lounge
  • Lounge 2.0 ceiling needs to be painted
  • but really: check out the [2] airtable list and click the signup button

Awesome Callouts

  • Andrew, Matt, Jason, Anna, and especially Ken (and Justin for offering to help too) and also Ron
    • For moving the huge pieces of metal out of a basement to here to make tables
  • Michael Skilton for initiating making small metals its own area
  • The unknown organizer of the tool cage - thank you mystery organizer!
  • Andrew for all the stuff he does because he's doing a lot
  • Doorman Dave for fixing the wordpress logins

What have you been hacking

  • Sonya made a butcher block counter top
    • Got wood ash and maple from Rebuilding Exchange, lots of handplane
  • Shelly made more drawings for her book
  • Kathryn has been learning about how to train for gender transition surgeries
  • Jennie has made Simon aware of his doppleganger
  • Adriana has been working on her cat tree - needs to get authorized on the sanding area

Announcements

  • Kitchen buildout meeting and hours - Friday at 6
  • Friday evening - Preparation for Monday's International Talk Like A Pirate Day
  • Monday Morning - Pirate Raid on Krispy Kreme with Gerald & Shelly
  • 300 Seconds Of Fame happens tonight!
  • Bike Clinic - 8 pm in the shop
  • October 1, 1-3 pm - Shellie is running a workshop on how to make basic earrings
    • If you have roundnose pliers, bring 'em, but no required
  • CAJOO - Cable Access Jam Office Hours -come and play music, no skill or even instruments required

    • We're a hackerspace. No paid staff, all volunteers, we make things and do things and try to make things work.
