Background

This vote spans 2 areas:

Area 1: Pallet Racks in General Area

• Currently there are Pallet racks between the General Area and Cold Metals with 30 lockers, currently designated as member storage.
• This vote would be to create 4 sets of drawers that will sit on the pallet racks currently in the general area
  • The current 30 lockers would be removed
  • In their place we will be adding 4 drawered pieces of furniture to have a total of 120 drawered spaces
  • Currently there are more members who have claim to a storage space than we have storage spaces for. In addition as noted in some other places there are some professionals who leave tools and such in areas that could be persuaded to upgrade their membership.
• The New Drawered storage:
  • All drawers will be fitted with electronics, lights and be tied in to our member management services
  • Current lockers are 2’ x 1’ x 1’. New drawers will be approximately 2’ x 2’ x 1’ doubling the size and making them more comparable to the catwalk storage
  • All drawers may be fitted with a drawer front that can close off the drawer to keep items safe
    • Many members who would like to store tools have not wanted to leave their tools in open spaces
  • All drawers may be fitted with electronic solenoids and rfid controls to provide access controls to keep member’s items and tools safe
  • Each drawer is fitted with full extension drawer slides with 100lb capacity
  • Drawers that are not claimed by member dues will be available for temporary storage that will be managed by the same system that runs all the lockers.

Area 2: Cold Metals area by the Johnson Bandsaw.

• The Pallet Racking will be set up more like the tall pallet racks in the General Area and the Woodshop. Any tooling in the area will stay where it is and new space will come from building above.
• Currently tools in the area are:
  • Johnson Bandsaw
    • This will stay where it is
  • Sheet Metal tools
    • These will stay accessible how they are
  • The Table with the Vise
    • This table may be removed to make space for the drying rack and some small amount of sheet goods storage.
    • The vise can find another home
  • Small amount of empty space
    • We will attempt to keep as much ground level space as we can.
• Drying Rack.
  • The intent is to have some place that is designated towards the drying of painted goods. Having the rack right outside the dock/ paintbooth should be helpful in keeping things contained.
  • We are hoping to have some kind of foldable rack or other arrangement that can be configurable to hold many different sized materials, or many items at once.
• Sheet Stock Storage:
  • This space will likely be like the sheet storage space in the woodshop, but will be configured to best accommodate items that don’t fit well in that area.

Closing Remarks:

• As we all know, we’re growing and at the same time running out of space. We have lots of members/ areas/ clubs that want to have things stored at the space. We should want to accommodate all these wishes and we can.
• I’ve spoken to many members and area hosts about what I’ve been up to and what I want to do. These lockers will be tied in with our member management system and can be a mix of temporary storage and rented storage or anything in between.
• $10,000 may seem like a lot, but once full, these drawers have the capacity to bring in over $40,000 per year. That is a fantastic rate of return. If that wasn’t enough, I was the one that spearheaded the transition to our new dumpster service. This change not only got us 3x the amount of dumpsters, it also saved us $1000/mo. So already that would have paid for a giant portion of this project.
