Background

The primary IT services in the space are running on aging hardware and an undersized battery backup. Thanks to the explosion of "cloud" service providers, we can replace these with newer second hand systems that are both more powerful _and_ consume significantly less power.

Hypothetically, the power requirements for this hardware could go from the current total of 1300 Watts to < 300 Watts based on Hef's measurements here:

[1]

product price
Dell C6100/DCS6005 3 x node mini-cluster - 144 GB RAM - 6 processors - 36 x 1.8 GHz cores $599.00 + $36 shiping = $635
Western Digital Green 2TB SATA drive - 5x (two RAID pairs plus a cold spare) $78 * 5 = $390
TP-LINK TL-SG1016 - 16-Port Gigabit rackmountable - 13 Watt maximum power consumption $78
Total + 20% buffer $ $1330

Language

Authorize the BoD to spend up to $1330 on acquiring replacement low power server hardware for the PS1 IT infrastructure
