List of Interest Groups

This is a list of interest groups formed, affiliated with, or wished for at Pumping Station: One

(Please insert new groups alphabetically.)

Autobiohacking

A group focusing on practical transhumanism: ways to improve our bodies and minds above and beyond what's considered baseline "normal" or "healthy". Examples include:

  • Improving physical health via effective combinations of diet, exercise, and supplementation. (We won't get to enjoy all the gadgets of the future if we don't live long enough to get there, right?)
  • Improving mental acuity via nootropics, meditation, etc.
  • Augmenting our natural senses and faculties via mediated interfaces, computers as exocortices, etc.

Please add yourself to the autobiohacking page if you're interested.

DIY Musical Instruments

We currently have interest in cigar-box ukuleles, theremins, circuit-bent keyboards, and more.

Interested parties should contact Sacha

Krafty Korner

A group focused on exploring textiles, pigments, woods, metals, and the arts, with a special focus on the creative reuse of materials:

  • Creative use and reuse of waste textiles
    • disassembly and reimagining of existing clothing and objects

  • Large- and small- scale art and installations
  • Graphic Design
  • Textile maipiulation and creation (sewing, crocheting, knitting, dying, etc)

Interested parties, contact Sacha

We meet weekly on Sundays - Contact Sacha or John S. to join us in a meeting (build meetings are held at a private residence, so you need to contact us for directions). Join us if you're interested in mechanical, electrical, materials, programming, or 3D design

Resilient Communities

This interest group will discuss the various ideas and issues surrounding the development of resilient communities(brief explanation from Global Guerrillas); technology, organization, strategies, and other related theorics/praxis will be debated and discussed, and the interest group will provide a launching point for projects along these lines.

Talk to Teddie about getting involved.

See the Reverse Engineering Task Force wiki page for more info

Screen Printing Workshop

We will discuss printmaking from start to finish. I'm learning right alongside everyone on a lot of this stuff, but do have some technical knowledge from what I've read in the past few years. Anyone with experience interested in helping put this together, let me know.
Interested parties contact Nathan

StepMania Arcade Machine (DDR)

Let's build a Dance Dance Revolution-esque arcade machine for the space using the open source StepMania application and custom hardware. (Or are you not dorky enough?) ;) Once built, this would be a great exercise routine and mind-clearer. (Synergy with the Autobiohacking group! Yay!)

Home Brew Water War

Planning and designing a home brew water gun match. There are a couple sub groups that are going to need to form to get everything done including water gun designs, teaching classes and event planning

A Proper Saturday Morning

A large majority of us grew up when Saturday morning cartoons were THE best part of the weekend. Breakfast/TV watching group for doing a proper Saturday morning.
