Background
Our current [planer] is loud and belongs to a member, not to PS.
It's also useful. Let's get a better planer that's also less disruptive to our community.
Helical, carbide heads have been described as "quiet enough to have a conversation next to". Given that the head uses indexed carbide inserts, that also means that a ruined cutting surface is quick and easy to replace.
An extra $500 is included to cover electrical if it needs to be run, extra inserts, shipping, and unpredictables.
Language
We authorize the board to spend up to $<cost + 500> on acquiring a new planer.
The planer should use carbide inserts and be selected with the intent to be quieter than our current planer.
