Background

PS1 got a Java Master 2002 Coffee Roaster recently. We are currently 20 users, and the machine starts to get heavy use. Coffee roasting creates a lot of smells and sometimes smoke that can inconvenience people in the area and it also produces chemicals that can be detrimental to health [[1]]. The chemical risk is not high for our current usage, but as the number of authorized users keeps increasing we need to be proactive and protect our members.

Synopsis

This vote proposes the installation of the Coffee Roaster under one of the existing exhaust pipe that exist in the building for example the one of the old laser cutter that is near the kitchen or attach to the kitchen one. This vote will also include the eventual water and electricity connections necessary for the roaster.

Language of the Vote

These are the steps involved for this vote:

  • Installation of electrical and eventually water connections (even if water can still be a removable pipe like it is actually)
  • Moving of the coffee roaster under the exhaust
  • Connection of the roaster to the exhaust. There is no special safety precautions, the connection should be done according to the Java Master instructions where the hot air is allowed so suck in some of the room air (so no direct connection). Temperature at that level is around 150F so is safe to exhaust on the roof.
