Member Rewards Amendment
Apparently this amendment was voted on at a meeting that took place on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 but the minutes of that meeting do not exist in this wiki. There is a posting in the google members' list setting out the text of the amendment, and according to the 2010 list of votes, it passed. The Meeting Notes 10-12-2010 say that member rewards were voted on by the board but the Board Meeting Notes 10-12-2010 don't mention it.
Here are the current Member Rewards: wiki page link. As far as I can tell, the member rewards were set by the board of directors, which the amendment to the bylaws allows them to do, it was not made a part of the bylaws themselves.
Member Rewards Amendment
Abstract:
Obtaining third party cash donations for any organization requires a significant concerted effort from many people to organize, discuss, negotiate, and fulfill requirements and requests of a donor individual or organization. This amendment aims to recognize these efforts and reward the many hours of work required to attract monetary donations.
Amendment:
The Board of Directors is authorized to reward any members who perform the necessary work and negotiations to attract, fulfill obligations of, and retain third party monetary donations to Pumping Station: One. The nature of these rewards will be in the form of Store Credits (defined below) and/or gifts. Gifts may include, but not be limited to: Pumping Station: One tee-shirts, stickers, and artwork.
The actual policy of rewards given per amount of donation or formula for determining the rewards will be decided by vote of the Board of Directors and shall be publicized to all members.
In the case where more than one member contributed materially to the work for the donation, the reward will be split evenly amongst the participating members.
The Treasurer shall track all Store Credits and apply them as requested by the owners of the Store Credits.
Limitations and Definitions:
All reward calculations are based on net donation to Pumping Station: One, NFP, minus any associated costs and reimbursements. This amendment applies to monetary (not in-kind or material) donations from non-members (i.e. third parties) to Pumping Station: One, NFP only. This amendment does not apply to donations provided by members directly to Pumping Station: One, NFP. Pumping Station: One Store Credits may be exchanged for discounted Pumping Station: One membership fees or products sold by Pumping Station: One, and are not redeemable for cash. If used for membership fees, only one Store Credit may be used per monthly fee.
One Store Credit is valued at the difference between the Full Membership Monthly Fee and the Starving Hacker Member Monthly Fee, as set by the Board of Directors OR the Starving Hacker Rate minus $10, whichever is the smaller value. Store Credits have no cash value. Store Credits may be transferred from one member to another. A member may choose to waive his or her awarded Store Credits. In this case, no Store Credits will be created or issued.
Store Credits expire twelve (12) months after they are awarded and have no value after the expiration date. Any taxes on Store Credits must be paid by the recipient, and Store Credits are void where prohibited.

A vote relating to Member Rewards is recorded at Meeting Notes 03-22-2011. It changed the schedule of Member Rewards (referred to as "Store Credits" in the amendment above to include rewards for people taking classes.

This seems to be another change to the schedule of Member Rewards, described in part as change to the bylaws themselves setting the value of member rewards to scale with the change in the difference between starving and full member status. With respect to value of member rewards, at the time the original Member Rewards amendment was passed, dues were Full=$50 and Starving=$30. Under the rule in the original amendment that meant that points were 'worth' $20. ($50-$30= $20 and $20 is not more than $30-$10.)
By the time this vote was taken dues were Full=$70 and Staving=$40. Under the rule in the original amendment that meant that points were worth $30 at that time ($70-$40=$30 and $30 is not more than $30-$10.)
However, it appears that when the actual member rewards were set by the board, at the time this vote was taken they had the value defined as "The difference between full membership and starving hacker membership or $20, whichever is less." Although this is completely different than what the actual amendment added to the bylaws says, before the change in member rates it gave the same result. But after the change in rates it gives a value of $20 rather than $30 as the text of the amendment added to the bylaws requires.
From the discussion in the google groups, it looks like the people voting didn't remember the definition in the bylaws and were trying to correct an error in the schedule of member rewards. It isn't clear to me why this wasn't just a board of directors vote because I can't find anywhere that the schedule of member rewards was adopted into the bylaws, but for whatever reason, that vote changed it to:

Under that scheme, point value is back to $30, consistent with the original amendment to the bylaws, but the method of calculation is different.

Proposed wording is: Members can be awarded *Membership Rewards* Points (Points) for various things they do that benefit the space. Points can be redeemed for items purchased from Pumping Station: One and/or used to reduce a member's dues / increase member status.
Points are valued at the difference between Full Membership and Starving Hacker Rates or $20, whichever is more.
Points can be earned by:
- Bringing in donations from third parties (cumulative throughout the year)
- $100 gets 1 Point, then an additional point every $200 thereafter.
- Running a public event of ten or more attendees or class of five or more earns 1 Point. Only one member can receive a Point award per event.
- Performing a substantive, significant service to Pumping Station: One as determined by the Board of Directors). For example: a cleanup event, organizing a large scale party (such as Geek Prom), donor event, etc.
Things Points can be redeemed for:
- Dues discount.
- Status increase - Get 1 month of full member status for the price of starving hacker membership.
- Other, as determined by the Board of Directors.
The Treasurer shall maintain record of Points.
Points have no cash value, and they expire 12 months after issuance.
Points may be transferred from member to member by contacting the Treasurer.
