Mimaki CJV30-160
Status
Description
A large format printer with integrated plotter and cutter that uses SS21 eco-solvent inks. This thing does it all, from printing on a seemingly endless number of media to plotting (both cutter and pen).
All the way from bog-standard paper to fancy wallpaper, to car-wraps - there is very little this monster cannot print on.
Reminders
- If you change the pinch roller thickness to high, change it back.
- NEVER tape media to itself. Always use a piece of paper wrapped around the media and tape the paper to itself.
Features
So many
Rasterlink Software
Only one instance of Mimaki Rasterlink6 can be running on the computer. Closing it might not truly close it, so it's left running. Ideally you log off after using the computer so you don't accidentally block others from working.
If you try starting Rasterlink, and nothing happens, probably someone else left it running. The fix is to restart the computer.
There may be multiple jobs already in the software. You can press ctrl-A then delete to remove them.
Printing
Media is up to 63.7" (1,620 mm) wide.
The CJV30-160 is capable of printing up to 1440x1440dpi depending on the media profile. Our house media profiles have these resolutions:
- Photo papers - 1440x1440
- Canvas - 540x720
- Vinyl is at 720x720.
Note, not every profile has every option available to change.
When setting up the print:
- Passes, want higher, 12 or better best
- High speed scanning is about 1 min per linear foot
- Normal speed scanning is 5 min per linear foot
These settings all affect how consistent the color is.
Cutting
The CJV30-160 is also capable of performing print and cut operations. Ideal for small runs of stickers or labels. These need to be set up in Illustrator (or another vector image editor of your choice) before being loaded into Rasterlink as a PDF.
If you are not using Illustrator you will need to create two spot colors in your image editor as follows:
Name: CutContour Cyan: 0% Yellow: 100% Magenta: 100% Black: 0%
Name: CutContour1 Cyan: 0% Yellow: 100% Magenta: 100% Black: 0%
If you are using illustrator you can download the swatches here. Cuts need to have a stroke width of 0.01 or less or they will not register properly in the software. 0.001 stroke width is recommended.
When exporting PDFs from Illustrator:
- Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities
- Sticker cutting:
- Honor Spot Colors
- Include Layers
Plotting
pen and otherwise

Maintenance Manual
The Canvas Course is very thorough in explaining how things work. It is recommended to use it as a reference.
Helpful Notes
- The CJV30 measures the media by the outside pinch rollers and not the actual media.
- After loading the paper (as explained thoroughly in the Canvas Course), press the "Remote" button. This will allow Rasterlink to connect to the printer. Once connected you should press the button that's shaped like a recycle icon, just with 2 arrows instead of 3. This will set the paper width, which you can see in that general area.
- To feed and cut: In local mode you can use the up/down arrows to position the paper, then press the Function button, the only option available will be Cut. Press select to cut off the full width paper roll at the cut line. The a small paper taped on the wall behind the printer with the steps.
