User:Travisdoesmath
Introduction
My username is a bit of a misnomer. "travisdidmath" is more appropriate, but "travisdoesmath" was available and correct when I started using it on gmail, and because there apparently aren't a lot of people named Travis out there who are willing to present themselves as doers of math, it's so far been a 100% success rate as a username across the interwebs. I have a master's in math that they gave me as a consolation prize when I dropped out of a PhD program in geometric group theory. My main hobby is photography, and I'm an official photographer for three roller derby leagues.
Note: I still use that gmail account as my primary account, so if you want to contact me, that's a really good place for it.

Project Ideas
Automatic Land Conversion
Convert a Polaroid Automatic Land camera to manual.
Build a Camera
Similar to the Polaroid TLR, but without a mirror.
Portable Polaroid Drying Rack
Create something to hold polaroids as they are drying so that they don't stick together or blow off into the wind.
Raspberry Pi Timelapse
- Issues:
- The timing of the camera module pictures seems to be inconsistent, creating jittery videos
- The (hopefully) water-resistant housing appears to get very hot. Need to test if temperatures rise above safe range.
- Need to attach tripod mount
Open Source Album
Create an album with all source material made available for remixing or completely restructuring or something else I haven't even thought of.
Open Source Album Infrastructure
Create a website that allows anyone to create an open source album. Possibly GitHub inspired.
Better Bus Tracker
Create a CTA bus tracker that provides time windows based on statistical data.
Arduino based Camera Trigger
Audio and light triggered shutter release / flash controller
Fly Tracker
Step 1: Video a fly flying around in an aquarium or other large enclosure Step 2: Track coordinates of the fly Step 3: Build a sculpture of the path taken by the fly
Nebulous Ideas That Need To Be Firmed Up
- 3D Printed Rubik type puzzle
- Create a synth
- Create effects pedals
- Multimedia audio/visual art things
- What do connected Julia sets look like stacked on top of each other?
