The SEM has irregularly scheduled certifications, and currently, there is no certification for EDX, sample preparation, or changing out samples.

Ryan Pierce runs [[Leica S430 Scanning Electron Microscope|SEM]] user authorizations which consist of a 3 hour group lecture (watch the mailing list, he tries to schedule these at varying times monthly) after which you must schedule a 1 1/2 hour slot with him for hands on individual instruction. Users completing this will be authorized to use the SEM to view samples already in the sample chamber. Ryan can work with users to prepare samples which users can view. Additional advanced authorizations (sample prep, EDX analysis, critical point drying) are in the works.

The [[Shopbot PRS CNC router]] certifications are generally run as classes with a capped number of people who can attend. They are not taught very frequently and there is usually a wait list as they fill up very quickly in a first come first serve basis when they are announced. Watch the [http://pumpingstationone.org/contact-2/ member's mailing list] for announcements of classes. If no class has happened for some time, you should post to the member's list asking when the next certification is, but first search for a current thread on the mailing list, so as to avoid duplicating conversations. The class will normally last several hours.

The current areas have broken authorization paths.

Things that can get a tool listed as having a broken certification path:

  • Not regularly scheduled Certifications
  • Waiting for a mailing list post
  • requiring a specific member, or overly small group of members to use a machine.
  • Requiring knowledge of PS:One's internal strucure
  • Requiring knowldege of specific member's of PS:One, or requiring contacting members that do not have publicly available contact information.
  • Certification paths that have frequent complaints of not being able to get certified.

On The Bridgeport Mill

There are currently no regularly scheduled authorizations happening the on manual Bridgeport, but Cold Metals Volunteer Authorizers can field a request.

I've seen folks doing authorizations with some frequency. They aren't scheduled, but it doesn't seem inaccessible.--Dbever (talk) 08:29, 22 June 2015 (CDT)

This currently requires Tier 1 Authorization. https://wiki.pumpingstationone.org/Tier_1_Cold_Metals_Authorization

On Metal Shop Basic Tools (Tier 1)

The following tools fall under Tier 1 Authorization:

Who's Tier 1 Certified, who can certify me?

Tier 1 Authorization does not have a regular schedule, and substantial amounts of time pass between schedules.
