Talk:2014 Budget Vote
Dues number
Currently, Area hosts are shown as an expense, it would make sense to subtract that from the dues instead --Hef (talk) 02:48, 30 March 2014 (CDT)
This has been resolved by using PayPal actuals. Negativek (talk) 08:25, 2 April 2014 (CDT)
Deauthorizing Prior Authorizations
The language for getting rid of prior spending authorizations should not get rid of votes made, say, in the prior two weeks. The large format CNC router vote, if it passes, will pass only a week before the budget. Purchasing it that quickly would be unpleasant. Negativek (talk) 14:40, 3 April 2014 (CDT)
Does this include board votes? I'm thinking of the recent $2000 legal fees vote. Mskilton 20:34, 5 April 2014
Rent Buffer
- What is the source of the minimum cash on hand being = 8 months rent? The 2013 budget document references 6 months and I haven't found any other references. Mskilton 19:53, 5 April 2014
- 8 months rent is about equal to six months operating expenses. --Dbever (talk) 12:32, 6 April 2014 (CDT)
- The 2013 budget had a lot of stuff that was not published. The number was changed in a later version, but that version was not published, and has been the source of a huge amount of disagreement and confusion. For this budget, the number of on hand cash is being set to 8 months rent. --Hef (talk) 14:24, 6 April 2014 (CDT)
Board Discretion
A lot of expenses (Chase, Zoho, Pagely, Comcast, etc.) are authorized only to a certain amount. Is a buffer included? If not, one should be, e.g. the Board has discretion to increase this by 20% to cover increases to costs billed. Otherwise, something unexpected causes the ridiculousness of having to increase something by $12.50 with a member vote. Or, alternately, the language could be modified so it is clear that the policy granting the Board the power to pay contractually required expenditures trumps the budget. Comcast raised the rate $5 a month? No big deal. --Rdpierce (talk) 16:48, 6 April 2014 (CDT)
The board has a fair amount of discretion in keeping the space running - see Bylaws#Board Budget for one of the several pieces of language that allow the board to spend money to keep things rolling along. --Dbever (talk) 21:02, 6 April 2014 (CDT)
